This time and that time…..

When I was much younger, around 2 or 3 years old,  I would say to my parents that I loved them “this time and that time”.  I imagine that as a child this phrase described a love that was all encompassing and unconditional, without boundaries and  everlasting.   Looking back and remembering this, it seems a very wise phrase for a little girl with much yet to to come in her life. Children though, are wise and it is things said of this nature that make me believe that we have lived another life or two before this one.

I remember a few years back my daughter who was around 4 at the time asked me “Who do you love more, Daddy or me?”  I replied ” I love you both the same, but in different ways”  Which just wasn’t the right answer apparently!  Grace, (my daughter) came right back with “I love you more than Daddy”  To which I said “That’s not very fair” .  Straight back without hesitation Grace said with a shrug of her shoulders “Well, life’s like that isn’t it”

This love we give and receive , it is infinite and immeasureable, and this is not an easy concept for children to grasp as they live so much more in the present moment than many adults.  They like to measure, or at least in their minds have an idea of how long something will last, how big or small things are.  A phrase from a wonderful children’s book called “Guess how much I love you?”  ends with “I love you right up to the moon, AND BACK”  The concept of measuring love for children makes them feel secure and safe in the knowledge that they are loved.

As children we love because we are loved, as we get older we are loved because we love.  See how the “d” makes a difference!

Love is happiness that is shared and given back and forth.   The essentials of finding happiness are having something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.

After the “change” in the United States yesterday, the world and it people seems to have found something to hope for, I hope we can also all find something to love.

I believe that above all else Love is the only emotion that is real. I think that each and every moment of our days in this vale of tears we should strive to raise the level of love in the universe. Walk in the light and love.
